13. Tommy Gun
1. For Pat
Walking these streets all by myself, I don't care about anybody else!
'Cause sometimes don't you know that I just feel that way
And sometimes I'm just so ready to strike out!
And the people sit and stare from their main street terraces
And coffee shops as I pass by
But they never say "Hello" 'cause they could never understand
All the foreign concepts in my life
[Chorus:]
You see I'm thinking of a world, where people stop and think for themselves
And I'm thinking of a world, where people wouldn't fuck you for money
And I know, it's just a dream, but it's one I won't let go
'Cause I'm so tired of getting fucked
By you and you, and you and you...
Priorities prioritized in sickening ways by the capitalist pushers of the world
As the yuppies and the bankers of this neighborhood drive in F.U.V's to work
And I think to myself, "What a success these 'excess junkies' are!"
And I'm sure the homeless and those with no health care would surely concur
[Chorus:]
You see I'm thinking of a world, where people stop and think for themselves
And I'm thinking of a world, where people wouldn't F you for money
And I know, it's just a dream, but it's one I wont let go
'Cause I'm so tired of getting fucked
By those of you who..
Protect their conscience, by saying that it's only business
Protect their conscience, by saying that is just the way it is
Because it's not the way it has to fuckin' be!
2. On The Streets Tonight
on the streets tonight, o yeah on the streets tonight
on the streets tonight, that's where i'll be found
'cause i don't wanna go home
i want to hang out with my friends, i want to hang with you
where the city is at peace at 5 AM
as over the rooftops rises the sun
yeah we've been here all night long, lost in endless talk & our love songs
there are nights when these sidewalks feel like home
and the bright street light is a crystal chandelier
sipping a cup of coffee until the bakery opens...its doors
then a fresh baked loaf of bread, and it's off to bed...yeah
where i dream that i am on the streets at night
and i've never felt more perfect or in tune
with the city, with my friends, with the cops on the corner...yeah
then a stray red dog sits down right next to me
and explains the finer points of fresco painting
he's been studying six years ,
he says, "that's 42 years experience for humans!"
wake up in the afternoon
pick up the phone, i'm dialing you
i'll catch you at six for some chinese and some 80's karaoke
and then we'll set up on sidewalks
where we'll sing our songs
all night long....
3. If It's Good For The Economy, I'm For It
if genocide is good for the economy, then i am for it!
if genocide is bad for the economy, then i'm against it!
if healthcare for all is good for the economy, then i am for it!
if healthcare for all is bad for the economy, then i'm against it!
if enviromental devastation is good for the economy, then i am for it!
if enviromental devastation is bad for the economy, then im against it!
if going to war is good for the economy, then i am for it!
if going to war is bad for the economy, then im against it!
this country's gears can't slow down
at any cost to anyone they must sound
banker's fortunes and power cravings too
to this machine are bound
so this country's gears can't slow down
they keep selling us a rotten deal, and im getting more than sick of it
because the suffering it brings, far outweighs the minor benifits
the death of our health, the death of our dreams,
the death of this world that we lease
the death of breathing life back into
the long dead corpse we once called "peace"
4. 61C Days Turned To Nights
I`ll catch you again someday
on the streets of pittsburg pennsylvania
then again maybe not
where we can sit and remenis
about our younger years
and how we`d stay in bed all day
when you should of been in class, then
then in the night
that light shown down upon you
made you look like the star that you were
then in the night
that light shown down upon you
made you look like the star that you are
daytime thoughts on those streets
through winter breezes freezing gusts of wind
cutting razors to my years
those bitter cold days cast your silloet
angel like through the fogged up cafe glass
reality became a dream
then in the night
that light shown down upon you
made you look like the star that you were
yea, then in the night
that light shown down upon you
that light shown down upon you
driving you to the airport
watching you walk off to the
plane that did carry you away
you were too sad to look back to wave goodbye
so im not going to tell you what you missed
and im not going to tell myself
that i will never find you going in those lights again
cause i dont know if i will ever have that chance
but still i`ll never forget those days we had
and i`ll never forget those nights in the dark
in the pitch black moon light
the streets of this town are still cold
and still windy but the 61c doesnt feel the same
you said lets just leave it to fate
so i guess i`ll just have to leave it to fate
and wait and remember those days turned to nights
when in the night
that light shown down upon you
made you look liek the star that you were
when in the night
that light shown down upon you
yea...
5. Youth of the Modern World
you've been told all your life that,
"you're the youth of a modern nation."
but all you see in your eyes is a modern disaster!
you spend your life slaving to get an education
even though they say - that,
"it won't be enough, to get you the job, to get you the home,
to give you the life, that makes life worth living!"
you're the youth of the modern world
the future is yours, don't let the present cheat you
you're the youth of the modern world
the future starts now and it belongs to you!
public servants of the community,
talking about how much they care for the youth
but with no vote you become only a photo-op to shoot
by way of visits to your under-funded school,
and the mall where they taught you how to consume
never mind the curfew saying,
"we don't trust you! we don't believe you!"
when you're on the street, "no good" is what you're up to
they say, they say, "the youth are angry!"
they say, they say, "the youth are mad!"
but they don't know about you or me
no, they don't know about you or me
no, they don't know about you, or me,
or you, or him, or her, or you, or me...oh no...
sometimes i feel so enraged,
wondering if things will ever change?
why the hell does everybody have to buy into the game?
a society that lives to work,
and a government that spends more money on bombs than schools
no wonder the kids are always looking for something new...
this is the computer age, this is the modern age,
this is the age of sophistication
yet there are so few out there among the high-tech geniuses
that ever have a clue what is important to the youth,
or know what the youth can do!
and what the youth can do is so unbelievable...
so unforgettable...
so incredible...
and don't forget it!
don't fucking forget it!

"The Worst Case Scenario Survival Handbook
The indispensable indestructable guide
For surviving lifes sudden turns of the...WORST!"
7. The Critical Writing Assignment
The assignment read, "With this phrase tell a story:
The crowds eyes shot up, as the light cut across the sky..."
At the Airport Drive Inn, on a Saturday night
Where some kids go to make-out, and others go to start fights
And waste away their summer nights
The assignment read, "With this phrase, tell a story:
I'm a boxer, I'm from the South Side of town..."
And I'm the toughest motherfucker around!
And I know my strategy - using my head as much as my muscle
Ain't no one that can bring me down
'Cause I'm the toughest motherfucker in...
Sometimes there's words with more than one meaing
Don't forget to doubt and think for yourself
Or else one day when you look 'round,
You'll find no more free press in your town
8. We Found A Place
The kids sing out in defiance against a world that has forgotten them, and the media ask 'why are the kids so angry'? Afterwards they'll go back home to their uncaring fathers and misunderstanding mothers and they'll dream of a time when they're back again with all their friends at another show where they will sing, 'these are the days, these are the days we will never forget'. Sixteen and all alone, searching for a place to call her home, thinking about a bottle or maybe even worse, but she passed on self-destruction when she found a better place at the show with the kids, the excitement of change, and singing along with every kid in the crowd she breathed in deep and she sang out loud, 'these are the days, these are the days, these are the days we will never forget'. He was never called cool, no he never fit in because he thought for himself and he went against the trends but the abuse at school was finally setting in yeah, till the day he found a place to go with the other punk rockers at the punk rock show, shoulder to shoulder with his new allies he forget about school as tears came to his eyes, and he sang 'these are the days, these are the days, these are the days we will never forget, no'. Sitting under the corner light, my six string in my hand, playing my songs all by myself thinking no one out there could understand, but it wasn't too long before i realized i was wrong and i found myself singing from a stage, a chorus of voices singing along, and we sing 'these are the days, these are the days, these are the days we will never forget'. Yeah we sing, 'these are the days, these are the days, these are the days we will never forget, we will never forget'.
9. Thanks for the Letter
(From a Kinder, Gentler America)
Laying in my bed tonight-
Before I got myself up to write this song
2AM - paper/pen - contemplating
The struggle we're engaged in -
Does anybody really even care?
But then I thought of your letter and I knew better!
So I'll do it again - yeah I'll sing it again
For my family, myself, my friends, THE KIDS!
[Chorus:]
Thanks for the letter that you sent
Reminding me not to give in!
"Dear Punk Rock Star:
I'm just kidding - but I like to call you that now and then just for fun.
I like your attitude.
I like your songs, I've been a really big fan since I can't remember when?
See there are some times when I feel really alone,
cause I don't really have any friends, and I don't fit in at school.
The gym coach called me a "fag" in front of the entire class,
so now everyone puts me down by saying I'm gay.
But I don't care because I have nothing against
Homosexuals and the gym teacher is an asshole!
I think the things you say are important.
Thanks a lot.
Keep fighting!"
[Chorus (repeat)]
10. Cassette Deck, Road Trip, Grand Canyon
I heard the cry out as the car came to a STOP!
A mix of panic, then relief on the edge of the Grand Canyon
Ten seconds later still sitting frozen we burst out into
Fucking killer laughter - i couldn't catch my breath forever!
::Chorus:
And then it hit me! "Hey can you play that tape back?!?!"
I...can't believe that it was rollin'!!
Listen to the sounds of our commentary, then wicked yelling out
Screeching wheels, silence, howls...
That three week road trip was a road trip and a half - MAYBE MORE!
Captured on one roll of film, out of focus pictures bore,
Every national monument - every tourist trap
Across the 48 states that fell within our path
::Chorus:
And then it hit me! "Hey can you play that tape back?!?!"
I...can't believe that it was rollin'!!
Listen to the sounds of our commentary, then wicked yelling out
Screeching wheels, silence, howls...
By my count it all ended - 17 CASSETTE TAPES LATER!
Stupid, brain dead obersavtions - yes we were much too clever
To know that we were having the time of our lives
Now years later listening to those cassettes drives me to cry...
::Chorus:
And then it hit me! "Hey can you play that tape back?!?!"
I...can't believe that it was rollin'!!
Listen to the sounds of our commentary
Recording our lives ourselves, i'm glad i have them now...
11. Where Has My Country Gone?
I can here the jackboots again
Although I'm not in Nazi Germany
And I'm not in Red China
These are echos in my Home-Land
They're every value un-American
A spit in the face to the authors of the Constitution!
::Chorus:
These are ugly days, ugly times, ugly words
From lies and disinformation ignorance is born
Can you smell the hatrid bring bred from fear?
And dont you understand that when you give your rights away
There is no freedom left to die for?
Where has my country gone?!?!
Can't see the similarities?
Can't disern reality?
'Cause when you're awake you're still dreaming!
Dreaming in the mall and in the stores of 5th Avenue
In endless choices and accessories
Drowning euphoria in a sea of gluttony
Delve in deep now - there drugs are legal
Delve in deep now - these drugs they are even encouraged - advertised!
Delve in deep now - no need to fear global corporations
Delve in deep now - let the pain, blood,
And tears of sweatshop workers lull you to sleep...
Or you canlook to the alternative - turn from the conservative
The backward facist-like prospects - that saves us by enslaving us!
Strips our rights away - with no garuntee of improved Homeland Security
Who's gaining from these policies?
The American people? Or those looking to abuse their authority?
12. College Avenue
Sitting on the corner of College Avenue,
Wondering to myself, "How come one so smart be so stupid?"
More education than the GNP of a small country
Could buy in a lifetime, yet you're so foolish...
Brainwashed to the core, like a stupid fucking drone
Just because you're book smart, doens't mean you're not a chump!
Sitting on the corner of College Avenue,
Watching the co-eds passing by - each lost in their lives
Dreaming of faternity boys, and sorority girls,
Who've argued to me, "Our house isn't like the rest!
We're different!"
Self-important fucks! Living in a dream world
Someday one of these assholes, will be running the world...
THE FUCKING WORLD....!!
Some day, one of these thousands of jag-offs on this very campus
May become famous for something they'll do
Maybe they will cure a disease,
Or even bring about just a touch of world peace
But then again when i look around...
Then again when i look around...
Then again when i look around... I think to myself,
"Maybe not!"
13. Tommy Gun
Little boy solider Tommy Gun
He'd kill to play "peace keeper man"
It's a little game he learned from dad
His daddy was a "peace keeper" in Iraq
Pretending he's off solidering, in a distant far off land
He cocks his gun, he shoots you down
Murder again, and again, and again
Murder again, and again, and again
Murder again, and again, and again
Teaching the children to murder
Sunday morning, off to church,
A red faced preacher sweating words
This fat old fuck goes on and on
Tommy learned a special lesson
"Thou shall love they neighbor,
And thou shall never kill,
Void in name in cash"
Murder again, and again, and again
Murder again, and again, and again
Murder again, and again, and again
Teaching the children to murder
You're going to dream tonight little boy,
And in that nightmare you're going to wake up to think...
That's when you'll get it
They punish anyone, don't you know
That shows any sign of understanding
More than their rhetoric
Just like his dad, and his dad's dad before him
Tommy went off to fight in a war
And protect his people from an inhumane race,
From an out of sight threat, in a far away place
And just before Tommy got shot down, he stopped to think,
To ask himself, "Are their armies also made up of their poor?"
Murder again, and again, and again
Murder again, and again, and again
Murder again, and again, and again
Teaching the children to murder.
